Hagley Women's Institute

The speaker at the April meeting was Joe Hawkins on the restoration and history of Hagley Hall Park. His illustrated talk was most interesting, particularly on the finding of various architectural features and cascades which had long been buried under years of neglect. His investigations to find information on restoring the park to its former glory took him far and wide - even to America where many papers on the hall and its grounds are in the safe keeping of the Huffington Museum.

It is hoped to arrange a walk, conducted by Joe, for members to enjoy and to view the grounds and the amazing work that has been done to bring the park back to life.

May month is the time when WI’s conduct a business meeting to elect a Committee and President.  At this meeting members also discuss and vote upon two resolutions to be dealt with at the Annual Meeting of the National Federation of Womens Institutes. Discussion this year is on Alleviating Loneliness and Microplastic Fibres Polluting the Oceans.

Members are looking forward to interesting speakers in the months to come and there are several extra events to enjoy. Meetings are at Hagley Community Centre 2pm on the 2nd Monday in each month. We are always pleased to welcome visitors and prospective members so if you wish to try us please come to a meeting or 'phone me for further information.
