Hagley Probus Club with a membership of 45 retired professional and business men who reside within a five mile radius of Hagley War Memorial, meet each month at the Granary Hotel for luncheon and a presentation of some description; the topics are very varied and are of general interest to the members, and every other month to their ladies, who visit the club.
Of recent time our presenters have included: a principal clarinetist from the CBSO, From Kidderminster to Beijing on a Bicycle Alone, The Kidderminster Hospital Chaplain and the Black Country’s part in building the Titanic.
Occasional trips are other activities of the club; recently a party of 54 members and guests enjoyed a three course dinner totally created and prepared by the students at Halesowen Catering College.
Future planned trips are to Windsor Castle and a River Cruise, to Birmingham for War Horse, later followed by an evening with the CBSO including a back stage visit.
Last year’s annual club holiday was to Normandy and this year it is to Belgium for a 4 night stay; thanks to Johnson’s Coaches of Henley we again look forward to a very full and interesting itinerary. The June meeting was a celebration of the club’s 32nd birthday, with a fine luncheon at the Granary Hotel. The ladies of our departed members and a few other invited guests were present and after luncheon we were entertained by Nonny James (late of BBC H&W) and her accompaniment.
Local retired businessmen or professionals interested in joining the us should contact Mr Robin Oakes on 883802 or the President, Mr Tom Hall on 884651.
