WESTERN BADMINGTON CLUB
Do you fancy getting fit for the Summer? You can’t spare the time during the day but one evening a week would be perfect to get into playing sport again. How about a game of badminton? Perhaps you haven’t played for a few years or are looking to play on a social basis, then why not give us a try. We’re a friendly bunch who meet on Wednesday evenings at Haybridge School from 8.00pm – 10.00pm.
We don’t play league badminton but meet each week to enjoy a few games. We play throughout the year with just a short two-week break for the festive season. Some of us have a get-together in the pub afterwards and usually each year we enjoy a couple of meals out.

How we started
The Western Badmington Club was founded way back in the early 1970s by John and Judy Berrow who lived in Western Road.
The Club has met every Wednesday at Haybridge High School. During those early years of minimal facilities, and cold showers we played in the Gym, but for the last few years we have been able to benefit from the fabulous facility of the new sports hall. We occupy four courts, and other clubs occupy the other two (well, for some of the time anyway).
We are very fortunate to have maintained the timing of club badminton activities from 8:00pm until 10:00pm which means that those members with busy work schedules can feel well clear of their daily toil before engaging in the Club’s activities.
Not all of us want to keep fit by playing badminton; some members enjoy a few games then slope off at 10:00pm to enjoy a “pint” at a local pub before the towels go on. As a club we try to get together a couple of times a year for a social meal, and one of those is the AGM. You never know, I might report on the forthcoming AGM in a future edition of this magazine... I bet you cannot wait!!
