Current news from Walton District Guides and Brownies
Before the Coronavirus broke out Walton Division had some exciting trips:
At the start of March the three Hagley Brownie Units had a sleepover in the Sealife Centre, Birmingham. Sixty Brownies and leaders were given a VIP tour, where they went behind the scenes and watched a 4D movie, which they loved. The girls then slept in and around the 360 degree Ocean tunnel with the huge turtle, sharks and many other creatures swimming around them. After a few hours sleep some woke to see the penguins racing around their home. A fantastic night and experience for the girls.
Also in early March 1st Hagley Rangers took part in the Monopoly Run – a joint Scouting and Guiding event in London where teams started at Waterloo Station and had eight hours to visit every place on the traditional Monopoly Board. The exact location of each point was not revealed until the morning and the whole day was organised via an app using GPS points. We had great fun finding statues, buildings and famous landmarks, seeing parts of London we had never seen before. We also got to stay at Pax Lodge the World Headquarters for Girl Guiding. It was a fantastic weekend.
Now Girlguiding continues but in a remote way. Our members are taking part in Zoom meetings online or being set challenges via email or post by their leaders. The leaders have been fantastic in adapting the programme to enable the girls to still feel part of Girlguiding even when we can’t be together.
